Accessing Support
You don’t need a referral to see a psychologist. You can see a psychologist as a private client and there is no limit to the number of sessions you can access. The downside of this is that you pay the full fee, unless your private health fund can provide rebates for Psychological Services.
We recommend you speak to your GP to discuss your eligibility to have the part of the service fee rebated.
Medicare Rebates
Medicare rebates are available for eligible psychology sessions with a valid referral. If you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan or Eating Disorder Plan from your GP, psychiatrist, or paediatrician, you may be able to claim a rebate on your sessions. Learn more about how Medicare can help make therapy more accessible below.
-
We believe that quality mental healthcare should be accessible to everyone. The Medicare Better Access Scheme helps make this possible by offering rebates for psychology sessions to those with a diagnosed mental health condition. Under this scheme, you may be eligible for a rebate on up to 10 individual and 10 group therapy sessions per calendar year.
The term ‘mental health disorder’ includes a range of conditions that significantly impact emotions, thoughts, decision-making, and social interactions. Medicare rebates apply to people experiencing challenges such as mood and anxiety disorders, eating disorders, sleep and fatigue concerns, psychotic disorders, unexplained physical symptoms, behavioural difficulties, and attention issues.
-
To claim Medicare rebates for psychology sessions, you’ll need a referral from your GP, psychiatrist, or paediatrician. If you’re seeing a GP, they will need to complete a Mental Health Treatment Plan before referring you. We recommend booking a longer appointment with your GP to allow time for this.
-
If you're experiencing an eating disorder, you may be eligible for an Eating Disorder Plan (EDP) — a Medicare initiative that provides rebates for a significant number of sessions each year, recognising that eating disorders often need longer, more consistent support than a standard Mental Health Treatment Plan allows.
What an EDP provides
An eligible EDP gives access to Medicare rebates for up to 40 psychological sessions and up to 20 dietetic sessions within a 12-month period. This is considerably more than the standard Mental Health Treatment Plan (which provides up to 10 psychology sessions per calendar year), reflecting the level of care eating disorders can involve.
-
Start with your GP. An EDP is prepared by a GP (or psychiatrist/paediatrician) after an assessment. Your GP will determine whether you meet the eligibility criteria.
Eligibility. EDPs are available for anorexia nervosa, and for other eating disorders (such as bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, or OSFED) where certain clinical criteria are met. Your GP will assess this with you.
Bring your plan to us. Once you have your EDP and a referral, you can book with Cassie and claim your Medicare rebate on eligible sessions.
Reviews. EDPs include review points with your GP throughout the year to make sure the plan continues to suit your needs.
Veteran’s Support
Any veteran who has a DVA Gold or White Card can access up to 12 fully funded psychological sessions per year with Clint.
NDIS funded support
We welcome NDIS participants at Revolution Psychology. While we are not a registered NDIS provider, we are still able to provide psychological services to eligible participants — many people don’t realise that non-registered providers can deliver NDIS-funded support.
We work with participants who are:
Self-managed — you manage your own NDIS funding and pay us directly, then claim back through the NDIS
Plan-managed — your plan manager pays our invoices on your behalf from your NDIS funding
(As a non-registered provider, we’re unable to work with participants whose plans are NDIA-managed.)
We provide support funded under Core supports and relevant Capacity Building funding for psychological services. Our NDIS session fee is in line with the NDIS Pricing Arrangements.
Still working out what’s right for you?
That’s completely normal — funding, referrals, and rebates can feel like a lot to navigate. You don’t have to have it figured out before you reach out.
A free 15-minute call is the easiest place to start. There’s no pressure and no paperwork — just a chance to ask questions, talk through your options, and see if we’re the right fit for you.
